A mother & daughter sailing team.

“Mum says I’m a ‘chip off the old block’, I see myself as following in her footsteps…but a boat doesn’t tread on land…So I guess I’m following In Her Ocean Wake.”

Annette & Sophie on the return voyage following the 2018 Melbourne Osaka Cup.

The final goal is to be the first-ever mother & daughter sailing duo to have competed in the Melbourne to Osaka double-handed yacht race.

In preparation for such an endurance event, we will be participating in other significant race events including the Ponant Sydney Noumea Yacht Race 2024 and the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2024.

However, this is more than an ocean race…or a few…we aim to share the passion and spirit of women inspired to conquer oceans. In Her Ocean Wake was created to encourage those wishing to rise to their personal adventure challenge. The cameras will be aboard from qualifiers, boat preparations and training races to the main event to create a series of videos showcasing the limits a mother & daughter are willing to push to pursue adventure.

Listen to a conversation between Netty & Soph as they talk about why they decided to take on the challenge to sail to Japan just the two of them and what they’re looking forward to most about the journey.

The latest blog…

We have ‘booked’ to stay at Lord Howe Island for three days.  Our luxury abode is a ‘boutique’ mooring fit for a queen.  Turquoise crystal clear water, a kaleidoscope of shapes and colours beneath Fika’s keel, unique mountain peaks and lush vegetation beckoning us ashore…

Our 700 nm Offshore Training:

The Melbourne to Osaka is Australia’s longest Category 1 ocean race…It’s like sailing eight Sydney to Hobart Yacht Races nonstop and with only two people aboard…

However, it is about more than a few ocean races…

We’re looking forward to sharing frequent updates with you as we make our way to the start line of the Melbourne Osaka Cup and beyond!
